Power stations can be filtered by type, status and capacity using the buttons below. Filtered results will show on the map, and in a list at the bottom of this panel.

Click on the power station name in the result list and the map will zoom to the location of the power station. The details tab provides more information on each project and a link to external sources of information.

Type of data included

Power generating facilities on this map are generally limited to those of 5 MW or greater capacity.

Existing power stations include information about fuel type, size (MW), ownership, commissioned date and data source. For remote/isolated areas, only major generating facilities have been included.

The map also displays new and proposed power generating facilities. Inclusion of proposed projects in this map should not be interpreted to mean projects have in any way been endorsed by the Queensland Government. It is also important to note that many publicly announced projects may not proceed to completion.

The map shows projects at the following stages:

• Development approval – a project has obtained the necessary local, state and federal development approvals but has not yet obtained finance. Many projects do not progress past this stage.
• Financial close – this is a major milestone. Once a project raises the necessary finance and has development approval, the project is considered to be committed and has a high chance of progressing to construction and operation.
• Under construction – projects typically progress quickly to construction stage once they have achieved financial close.
• Operational – once a project starts exporting energy to the grid it is considered to be operational.

The data has been compiled by Queensland Treasury from a range of public sources, including public notification of development applications on local government authorities’ websites.

Positional accuracy

Most latitudes and longitudes of existing power stations were determined using Google Earth ™ geospatial information. Where two or more power stations exist at the same location, they have been deliberately separated to prevent the points plotting on top of one another. The positions of proposed power generating facilities may not be accurate and mostly represent the general locality of the proposed facility.
